Woodgrove: Skate indoors for charity

On Saturday, Feb. 10 at noon, Woodgrove Shopping Centre will start up a cool promotion. The centre’s installed a pop- up seven-metre by 11-metre synthetic-ice rink for its Skate Indoors for Charity event, Feb. 1-April 1. Skaters can enjoy the indoor rink and planned events while supporting the Nanaimo Child Development Centre, the charity that will benefit from the proceeds of the initiative.

Opening celebrations kick off Feb. 10 starting at noon and feature a performance by the Canadian Ice Dance team, national and international competitors Sarah Arnold and Thomas Williams who will perform three shows Feb. 10 and 11 at 12:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

There will be free hot chocolate thanks to Blenz Coffee, and red mittens for the first 50 skaters, sponsored by The Hudson’s Bay. On Family Day, Feb. 12, the rink will host the Nanaimo Clippers for a skating and autograph session from 1-3 p.m.

Admission for the Skate for Charity event is $3 person for 15 minutes and that drops down to $2 on Toonie Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hours to skate the synthetic rink are Monday, Tuesday and weekends from 1-5 p.m. and Wednesday to Friday from 1-5 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m. All proceeds to the Nanaimo Child Development Centre.

Sarah Arnold and Thomas Williams will skate three performances Feb. 10 and 11.
