Successful SummerFest for Lonsdale

Lonsdale Quay Market has just wrapped up SummerFest for another year.

From June 24 to Sept. 3, the Market offered free activities from Wednesday to Sunday for the whole family, bringing together the local Lower Lonsdale community and showcasing the area to many tourists visiting from around the world.

This year, the Market hosted two free outdoor movies; “Back to the Future” July 2, and “Beauty and the Beast (2017)” on Sept. 3.in conjunction with Kid’s Celebration weekend. Organizer said the movies were extremely successful, drawing record crowds to the Market. Labour Day weekend also included a performance from award-winning children’s entertainers Bobs and Lolo, a kid’s yoga class and crafts.

A few changes were made to the SummerFest lineup this year with the addition of Work Out Wednesdays, a new series of fitness classes on the pier with partners including Eastwood Cycle and Bodhi Studios. The Market also partnered with Lululemon on “Pier Sweat” every Thursday at Shipbuilder’s Square. Additional events included a live painting/gallery experience on ‘Art Fridays’, an expanded Artisan Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and a new event, “Sunday Beers and Buskers” featuring a Beer Garden by the water, live music buskers and outdoor food and retail vendors.

Throughout the summer many talented performers took the stage for Canada Day festivities, Caribbean Days and during the centre’s Rock and Roll weekend. Talents such as Adam Woodall, Coco Jafro, Luisa Marshall as Tina Turner and Steve Elliott as Elvis Presley brought the events to life concluding that this event will be back for 2018.
